Smiler

The Smiler is a shadow entity that only exists in complete darkness. It is one of the most iconic Backrooms creatures.

• Appears in Level 1 (Stage 3) and Level !.
• Only exists in darkness — it cannot manifest in lighted areas.
• If you stay in the dark too long, the Smiler will appear and attack.
• It is fast and aggressive once it materializes.
• Smilers are often found in pitch-black hallways and basements.

• Always carry a flashlight — keeping the Smiler illuminated prevents it from spawning.
• Never linger in dark areas — move quickly through unlit sections.
• Flashlight is your weapon — shining light on a manifested Smiler can make it retreat temporarily.
• In Level 1 Stage 3, use the flashlight to navigate to the elevator while keeping darkness at bay.
• Co-op tip: have one player dedicated to flashlight duty while others complete objectives.
